Drivstoff produsert med utgangspunkt i fornybart materiale blir ofte kalt biodrivstoff. Dette er drivstoff fremstilt av fornybare råstoff. Det betyr at den samme mengden CO2 som blir frigjort ved forbrenning bindes opp igjen når planten vokser opp igjen. Slike drivstoff inngår derfor i naturens naturlige karbonkretsløp og bidrar derfor ikke til drivhuseffekten på samme måte som fossile drivstoff gjør, der man slipper ut mer CO2 enn naturen er i stand til å binde opp.

Sustainable Oils, a producer of renewable, environmentally clean, and high-value camelina-based fuels, announced that it has been awarded a contract by the Defense Energy Support Center (DESC) for 40,000 gallons of camelina-based jet fuel. The fuel will be delivered to the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) fuels team in 2009 and will support the Navy's certification testing program of alternative fuels. The contract includes an option to supply up to an additional 150,000 gallons of camelina-based jet fuel.
