As part of the overalll energy strategy of Gemany, the coalition has come to compromise regarding the living time of nuclear power. The power plants was meant to be taken down by 2022. Now their time has been prolonged. The opposition calls this a black day for the policy of energy in Germany

The key points of the compromise:

• Older nuclear plants should receive a longer duration of 8 years

• Younger plants get up to 14 years more time

• Power companies must support eco-energy with € 15 billion.

For these solution, the government plans to divide the 17 German nuclear reactors now in two groups, depending on the year. The bottom line is this: In Germany, also for the next three decades, nuclear power will be part of the energy-mix.
