QPC Quimica's (formerly Prosint) methanol plant, north of Rio de Janeiro, features a gas-fired boiler plant to manufacture methanol using ICI technology. A Fluor Econamine FGSM unit scrubs CO2 from the flue gases, and a proportion of the captured gas is supplied to the food industry. State oil company Petrobras supplies the plant with natural gas from its Duque de Caxias refinery, via a feeder pipeline.

In mid-1996 Prosint signed an agreement with AGA whereby it would build a flue-gas CO2 recovery unit and ultimately deliver quantities of food grade CO2 for soft drinks manufacturers in the area.

The project's start date was 1997 and as far as ZERO can ascertain, the plant is still in operation.
