DONG Energy

Brief description:

DONG is a state-owned Danish company that has been exploring for and producing oil and natural gas since 1984. It also set up Denmark’s natural gas infrastructure and has since owned and operated natural gas distribution grids in Southern Jutland, West Zealand, and South Zealand. It has also set up renewable energy facilities and takes part in energy trading.

DONG Energy was founded in 2006 from the merger of six Danish energy companies.  It has offices and operations across Northern Europe, and has been operating in the UK since 2001 within the areas of exploration and production and offshore wind farms.

The company is an industry leader in CCS technology and created one of the world’s largest carbon capture facilities on coal-fired power station flue gases at its Esbjerg plant in Denmark.

DONG Energy is the biggest power producer in Denmark with market shares of 49% on electricity production and 35% on heat production. It also owns power production facilities and projects also in Germany, Sweden, Norway and the United Kingdom. In the United Kingdom Dong Energy operates Barrow and Burbo Bank offshore windfarms and plans to construct Walney Island and Gunfleet Sands I and II wind farms. In Norway DONG Energy has invested into hydro and wind power.
