Facts:
Brazilian R&D agency CEPAC has been developing enhanced coal bed methane production with CCS by injecting CO2 at the Charqueadas coal field in the south of the country. The drilling phase at the Porto Batista pilot site has been completed and monitoring is ongoing.
The agency expects that, without a specific CCS regulatory framework in place, ECBMR activities may be affected by existing petroleum, mining, and environmental laws. As of April 2011 the project was still live and CO2 injection was expected to begin during this year.
