CLIMIT now also to include industrial emissions

av Audun Rødningsby 21.Jan.2010 - 11:35

The Norwegian government have decided to broaden the mandate of the CO2 research and development programme CLIMIT to also include industrial emissions. Gassnova will now have the possibility to stimulate solutions that are specifically adapted to the reduction of industrial CO2 emissions. Development activities will now be extended to also include development needs for a diversity of industries.

CLIMIT now also to include industrial emissions

Establishing closer cooperation with industry will help to enlarge and broaden the CCS community. There are many common features between the development of industrial solutions and the applications on which Gassnova so far has focused.

The increasing numbers of players and growing demand enhance the market potential of the entire CCS industry. This provides favourable conditions for development activities, which in turn will have knock-on effects for all involved players.

Facts:

Removing CO2 from a point source and depositing it in deep geological formations is called carbon capture and storage. You will also find terms like CO2 storage, CO2 handling, or CO2 sequestration used for approximately the same thing. CCS is a widely used acronym for the capture, transport and storage process as a whole.
